Artist Bio - My name is Caroline Morris and I am an oil painter currently residing in Charleston, South Carolina but moving shortly to Savannah, Georgia. My quickly approaching move to Georgia has inspired this body of paintings to reflect on my time in Charleston. The last six years in this beautiful city has inspired me in so many ways and I am truly grateful for being able to call it home. Having graduated from the College of Charleston in May of 2022, majoring in Studio Art, I now own my own painting business where I live paint at events and complete commissioned work for customers. When I’m not painting, I often find myself outdoors with my family and friends where much of my inspiration for my paintings comes from. I’m at my happiest when I’m painting and will continue to create everyday.

Artist Statement - My work is very memory-driven, with images of people, objects, and a specific place. The use of colors in my paintings allows me to share the overall mood and feelings of the people and how they interact with the place that they are in. I try to give every painting a different memory attached to it which emits a different emotion. The colors allow me to express how I remember feeling that day or how I feel someone else felt that day. I chose to paint my figures with few descriptive details and to leave them faceless because then the viewers can look into my memories or even substitute themselves into the paintings. Overtime, our memories may not always be clear. Who the figures are and their actions with the objects around them serve as mnemonic devices to make those memories more legible. My goal is to capture very specific moments in time to show how different each moment of a day can be. My focus for this group of paintings was to showcase certain memories of my time in Charleston, South Carolina. From the beach, to downtown, laying at the pool or walking in my favorite places around the city, I tried to capture the colors, people, and overall vibe of this beautiful city.
